I'm on Fire - I have always loved this Bruce Springsteen song. When I heard it was the fastest song he ever wrote, I decided to see what it sounded like on the piano. It's said that he just woke up, picked up his guitar and started fooling around with a Johnny Cash song when all of the sudden this song just came out of him.
I'm On Fire
Growing up as child of the 80’s, I got to hear a lot of horrible ballads by some of the bands of that time. I never considered Journey to be a hair band because they have some good stuff. Some of their faster songs are good; I just don’t play them on the piano. The Journey I play on the piano is a slow rendition of some of their ballads. Being that I had six older sisters growing up I was around to witness many proms and dances. I can remember at one point three of my sisters were in high school at the same time. It was during these years I remember slow songs like this one from Journey blasting from their bedrooms while they were getting ready for their dates to arrive. Unfortunately for my sisters that took a long time to get ready their dates would have to put up with a barrage of questions from my parents and other siblings. I tried to go easy on them unlike some of my other family members.
Arthur's Theme – This is a song from the movie Arthur. This is a song I have secretly liked since I was a kid. Once I learned it on the piano I really enjoyed playing
it. I never play it the same way twice and I d on’t really like to listen to the
actual version of the song anymore because I don’t ever hear it.
I learned it during a time I was learning a bunch of new songs. Sometimes I will go months without learning anything any new songs. Then I catch fire and start learning sometimes a new song a day. This is one of the songs I learned when I was on fire. Like the song says, if you get lost between the moon and New York City…the best that you can do is fall
This Year’s Love – The older group of my nieces and nephews are now around the college age. I used to play soft music for them to take naps. Now I try to make them songs to help them study and songs they enjoy. This is a David Grey song that has some nice piano in it. My nieces are fans of his music so I went with it. I listen to him at work sometimes and one day when I heard this I decided it would be the one David Grey song. Maybe the first of many but right now just the first of one. I like the way he plays the piano and his heavy chords. I’m sure I will learn another one of his down the road. Maybe this year….
